1.  How do I increase my spam protection?

To raise your level of spam protection, we now have three thresholds that you can set our spam filters to, Normal, High and Very High. Here’s how you access this higher level of protection:

A. Login to webmail: https://mail.hover.com/mail

B. On the bottom left side of the screen, please click on the “Spam” link in the Settings area

C. The first area is “Choose Spam Block Level”. Choose the level of spam protection you feel most confortable with from the drop-down menu. (Our default level is “Normal”)

D. Click “Save”

*****Please note that the higher that you set the threshold, the more likely that it will be that some of your real mail may get filtered into your Spam folder. The lower you set it, the more likely that spam will end up in your Inbox folder. Here’s our step-by-step: http://about.hover.com/increasespamprotection

5. I want to know more about unsubscribe lists.  I understand that sometimes "unsubcribing" sometimes puts me on more mailing lists - what should I do?

If the offending email has come from a Company that you are familiar with that you have signed up for a mailing service, and it has an unsubscribe method you should try it out.  If you are already receiving the spam, you should try to get off their mailing list.   Add them to your block sender list, and unsubscribe.  This process usually takes 5-10 days for them to remove you off their mailing list.

But never reply to an unknown source to be removed.  All that does is give them a "valid" email address instead of the guessed at ones they normally use. Also, since many spammers use fake email addresses as their "remove" addresses, many times your remove request will never even be seen by the spammer, and may in fact inundate an innocent person who the spammer decided to designate as the removee.

6.  What blocklists does Hover use ?

We currently use:   http://www.spamhaus.org  and http://abl.abuseat.org

7. What is the difference between marking someone as spam and just blocking the message?

Marking someone as spam will report the message content and sender as spam. By doing this, you will be sending a message to our system to block this type of message from getting through to anyone else.

Blocking the message will enable you personally block the sender, but if the sender uses another email address, they can send the exact same offending message again at a later time.
